Star Formation and System Calibration
نویسندگان
چکیده
Large scale star formation and chemical evolution are studied in the Bar of the LMC. For our programme, we use the HST Wide Field Planetary Camera and uvby photometry. This calls for careful calibration of the HST WFPC2 uvby system. Such calibration is derived through observations of cluster fields with both large ground based telescopes, including generous amounts of standard stars, and with the HST WFPC2 equipped with its set of uvby filters. This work is largely concentrated to the globular cluster ! Cen.

Emission-lines calibrations of the Star Formation Rate from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Aims. Up to now, the study of the star formation rate in galaxies has been mainly based on the Hα emission-line luminosity. However, this standard calibration cannot be applied at all redshifts given one instrumental setup. Surveys based on optical spectroscopy do not observe the Hα emission line at redshifts higher than z ∼ 0.5. Our goal is to study existing star formation rate calibrations an...
متن کاملThe Radio Spectral Energy Distribution and Star Formation Rate Calibration in Galaxies
We study the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the radio continuum emission from the KINGFISH sample of nearby galaxies to understand the energetics and origin of this emission. Effelsberg multiwavelength observations at 1.4GHz, 4.8GHz, 8.5GHz, and 10.5GHz combined with archive data allow us, for the first time, to determine the mid-radio continuum (1-10GHz, MRC) bolometric luminosities and...
متن کاملOptical System Error Analysis and Calibration Method of High-Accuracy Star Trackers
The star tracker is a high-accuracy attitude measurement device widely used in spacecraft. Its performance depends largely on the precision of the optical system parameters. Therefore, the analysis of the optical system parameter errors and a precise calibration model are crucial to the accuracy of the star tracker. Research in this field is relatively lacking a systematic and universal analysi...
متن کاملGALEX observations of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies: UV color and star formation efficiency
We present GALEX UV observations of a sample of Low Surface Brightness (LSB) galaxies for which HI data are available, allowing us to estimate their star formation efficiency. We find that the UV light extends to larger radii than the optical light (some galaxies, but not all, look similar to the recently discovered XUV-disk galaxies). Using a standard calibration to convert the UV light into s...
متن کاملEffects of star cluster evolution on emission line ratios and the application to H II galaxies Including a calibration of the R23 vs. 12+log(O/H) relationship
Amodel of spectral evolution of star forming galaxies of various metallicity has been used to study the relation between the optical emission line ratio R23= ([OII]λ3727 +[OIII]λλ4959,5007)/Hβ and the nebular oxygen abundance. It is shown that the scatter in an empirical comparison sample could be due to various upper stellar mass limits or different slopes of the stellar initial mass function ...
